13.11. Corners of installation of wheels of the car

GENERAL INFORMATION

The main requirement to a design of a steering and a forward suspension bracket – car safety.

Corners of installation of wheels should provide the minimum resistance to a kacheniye and wear of tires.

Convergence of wheels

The convergence of wheels (a turn of the planes of rotation of wheels to the car center) provides rotation of wheels in the planes at action of longitudinal forces on car wheels. The convergence is necessary for compensation of small gaps and elasticity of details of a suspension bracket and a steering. Value of a convergence of wheels recommended by manufacturer corresponds to an exact parallel arrangement of the planes of rotation of wheels at car movement. The deviation of a convergence of wheels from nominal rate results in fast wear of tires and increase in fuel consumption. In process of wear of details of a suspension bracket and a steering correction towards increase in size of a convergence of wheels is required. The convergence of wheels is supervised and regulated in the last turn.

Longitudinal inclination of an axis шкворня
The longitudinal inclination of an axis шкворня is understood as an inclination of an axis of turn of an operated ear which will see off via the bottom spherical hinge and the top support of a spring rack of a forward suspension bracket. The corner of longitudinal bow of an axis is measured in the longitudinal plane of the car. The corner corresponding to an arrangement of the top hinge of a rack of a suspension bracket behind the bottom spherical hinge is taken for a positive inclination of an axis шкворня. The axis tilt angle шкворня influences controllability of the car, but does not affect in any way wear of tires. Sag of springs of a forward suspension bracket or an overload of the car change a corner of a longitudinal inclination шкворня. At unequal corners of a longitudinal inclination of an axis шкворня the left and right wheels there is a tendency to lateral withdrawal of the car towards a wheel with a smaller positive tilt angle of an axis and шкворня. The longitudinal inclination of an axis шкворня is measured in degrees and is not subject to adjustment in use the car.

Disorder of wheels


Disorder of wheels is understood as a deviation from a vertical of the plane of rotation of wheels. The corner of disorder is measured in degrees and counted from a vertical. The size of a corner of disorder influences both controllability of the car, and on wear of tires.

At too big positive disorder of wheels fast wear of an external part of a protector of the tire is observed. Similarly, unduly bigger negative corner of disorder results in fast wear of an internal part of a protector of the tire. The disorder corner, as well as a longitudinal inclination of an axis шкворня, is not subject to adjustment in use the car.

Cross-section inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel
The cross-section inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel characterizes a deviation from a vertical of the axis passing through the bottom spherical hinge and the top support of a spring rack of a forward suspension bracket. The corner of a cross-section inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel is counted from a vertical.

The cross-section inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel promotes steady rectilinear movement of the car and provides stabilization of operated wheels. The corner of a cross-section inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel is executed by the negative.

Corner between the plane of rotation and an axis of turn of a wheel

The corner between the plane of rotation and an axis of turn of a wheel is measured in degrees in the cross-section plane of the car, see fig. Cross-section inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel. Value of this corner directly is not supervised, and is defined by summation (taking into account algebraic signs) corners of disorder and a cross-section inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel.

Shoulder обката

The shoulder обката is equal to distance between a trace of an axis of a rhinoceros of a wheel (passing through the bottom spherical hinge and the top support of a spring rack of a suspension bracket) on the basic plane and the center of a contact print of the tire. The size and a sign of a shoulder of oбката are defined by a design of a suspension bracket and are not subject to control and adjustment in use the car.
